April 22

MLB Pitch Hit & Run Competition, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Techny Prairie Park & Fields, 1700 Techny Road, Northbrook. A one-day event for kids ages 7 to 14 that allows youth to participate in the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. Participants will compete in either the baseball or softball division; they can advance through three levels of competition, including the finals held during the MLB All-Star Game. Free. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 24 at nbparks.org.
April 26-27
The Good Festival in honor of Earth Day takes place noon to 2 p.m. at Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center on Skokie Boulvard and Golf Road in Skokie. Demo drives with leading electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian, mini-spring wreath making, an animal adoption event, showcasing eco-friendly products and services. Bring clean, dry textiles for responsible recycling by Simple Recycling. The Organic Gardener will offer seed planting kits.
April 27
Earth Day Celebration 10 a.m.-noon, Emily Oaks Nature Center, 4650 Brummel St., Skokie. Tune in to nature’s melodies as you experience the many different genres of music found in the natural world. Earth-friendly foods will be available for sale. Purchase native wildflowers and grasses for your gardens on this first of two spring sale dates. Admission is free.

Skokie Festival of Cultures, 11 a.m.– 6 p.m., Oakton Park, 4701 Oakton St. Explore Skokie’s diversity at the 33rd Annual Skokie Festival of Cultures, a two-day, free ethnic festival in the park, featuring music and dance performances on two stages, food and beverages for sale, interactive cultural booths, a children’s game & activity area (additional fee), merchandise vendors, Parade of Cultures at the opening ceremonies on Saturday at 1 p.m., Festival of Colors on Sunday at 5:45 p.m.

Memorial Day Observance: parade 10:00 a.m., ceremony 10:30 a.m., Village Green Park, 525 Maple St., Winnetka. Join us for a Memorial Day Ceremony to honor those who gave their lives serving our country. The parade starts at Glendale and Elm St., then heads east to the Village Green Park for the ceremony.
