The Emeril Lagasse Power Airfryer 360, 360 XL, Deluxe and Plus models were alleged to cause overheat, fire and burn hazards even during the regular use. These air fryers overheat to reach temperatures more than 537°C (safe air fryer cooking temperature is 310 to 360°C.

Across Insignia (which also saw an air fryer recall in April 2022), Empower Brands, Secura, Cosori, and Magic Chef, over 3 million air fryers have been recalled in the past two years.

While air fryers are popular, the most expensive models can start to get a little pricey which could undermine their status as a budget item. Many people came out for halogen ovens as the better option. One person said: "I treated myself to a halogen oven to help with Christmas; I only have one shelf in my oven.

Air-frying equipment is not known to cause cancer, but the process of air frying does result in the formation of certain compounds, like acrylamide, that are linked to cancer development. Acrylamide is classified as a probable human carcinogen.

Many oven-based recipes cook 20% faster in an air fryer. Of course, you also have to clean the air fryer, and it's a bit higher maintenance than an oven or even a toaster oven.
